Privacy
Privacy at TypeUps
TypeUps is designed without public accounts, names, profiles, likes or follower lists. That reduces the personal information we need, but it does not mean the service collects no information.
This Privacy Notice explains what TypeUps processes, why it is needed and what choices you have.
Who we are
TypeUps is operated by Threestart Limited, trading as Blanktriangle, in New Zealand. In this notice, “TypeUps”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the operator of the TypeUps service.

Information we process
Thoughts and derived information
When you submit a thought, we process and store:
- The original text you submitted.
- The detected language and, when needed, an internal translation used for analysis.
- Themes, emotional or safety classifications and other automated analysis.
- A mathematical representation called an embedding, which helps find thoughts with related meaning.
- Moderation decisions, reason codes and confidence signals.
- Submission and update timestamps and a public thought identifier.
Published thought text and its theme are public. Internal translations, embeddings, moderation details and internal classification signals are not intended to be public.
Anonymous device information
TypeUps creates an anonymous identifier in local storage. It helps us:
- Recognise thoughts posted from that device.
- Allow deletion of those thoughts where ownership can be verified.
- Apply hiding and source-blocking choices on that device.
- Enforce rate limits and reduce abuse.
This identifier is not a public profile. If it is deleted or becomes unavailable, we may not be able to restore it or verify ownership of earlier thoughts.
If you confirm that you are 18 or older before accessing clearly explicit adult content, TypeUps may store that confirmation locally on your device. We do not ask for or store your date of birth for this purpose. The confirmation is self-declared and is not identity or age verification.
Technical and network information
When TypeUps receives a request, we may process an IP address, request time, route, browser or device type, application version, security results and similar diagnostic information. We use this information for security, fraud prevention, rate limiting, reliability and troubleshooting.
We do not use the content of your thoughts to create advertising profiles.
Journey and local preferences
Your Journey, hidden-thought choices, mature-content confirmation, theme preference and certain interface settings may be stored locally in your browser or application. Journey history is not designed to be stored as a server-side user profile.
When requesting another thought, the application may send previously visited thought identifiers so that TypeUps can avoid repeating them. We use those identifiers to fulfil that request, not to build a public Journey profile.
Feedback and reports
If you send feedback or report a problem, we process the category, message, current page, application version, platform and submission time. You may provide an email address if you would like a reply. Providing an email address is optional.
If you report a public thought, we process the reported thought identifier, selected reason, optional explanation and the technical information needed to prevent report abuse.
How we use information
We use information to:
- Publish and display thoughts.
- Moderate content and enforce the Guidelines.
- Detect language and understand meaning.
- Connect thoughts and generate Journey suggestions.
- Let a device manage thoughts it posted.
- Remember local preferences.
- Prevent spam, automated misuse, duplicate submissions and malicious activity.
- Investigate reports and maintain service reliability.
- Respond to feedback or enquiries when a response is requested.
- Understand aggregate product performance without creating public behavioural profiles.
Public information
A posted thought is public. It may be read, copied, linked to or shared by other people. Search engines are instructed not to index individual thought pages at launch, but we cannot guarantee that every external service will follow that instruction or that a publicly shared thought will remain unseen elsewhere.
Do not include your full name, address, telephone number, email address, account credentials, financial information, health records or other information that could identify you or another private person.
Automated processing and AI providers
We use automated systems to moderate, classify, translate and connect thoughts. Thought text may be sent to service providers that perform moderation, language analysis and embedding generation on our behalf.
Automated systems can make mistakes. Content may be allowed, limited, held for review or rejected based on automated and deterministic safety rules. Reports may also be reviewed manually.
Service providers
TypeUps currently relies on service providers for functions such as:
- Hosting and application delivery, including Vercel.
- Database and storage infrastructure, including Supabase.
- Automated moderation and meaning analysis, including OpenAI.
- Bot and abuse protection, including Cloudflare Turnstile.
These providers process information under their own security and privacy terms and may process it in countries other than your own. The list may change as the service develops.
Cookies and local storage
TypeUps does not require advertising cookies to provide its core experience. It uses local storage or similar device storage for the anonymous device identifier, Journey history, ownership information, hidden-content choices, mature-content confirmation and interface preferences.
Clearing this storage may remove your Journey and may prevent you from deleting thoughts previously posted from that device.
If analytics are introduced, use privacy-preserving analytics where practical and update this notice before enabling any new tracking that requires consent.
Retention
- Public thoughts remain available until deleted, suppressed or removed under our policies.
- Deleted thoughts are removed from public retrieval promptly. Residual copies may remain in protected backups for up to 30 days unless law, security or incident response requires longer retention.
- Feedback and reports are retained while they are needed to review the issue, detect abuse and maintain an appropriate operational record.
- Directly usable network security and rate-limit data should be retained only for the configured short operational period, normally no more than 30 days.
- Aggregated statistics that no longer reasonably identify a device or request may be retained for product and reliability analysis.
Your choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion or restriction of personal information we hold about you.
Because TypeUps does not require an account, we may have limited ability to identify information as yours. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify a request. We will not disclose another person's information merely because someone claims ownership of a thought.
You can also:
- Delete an eligible thought from the device that posted it.
- Clear your Journey and local preferences from the application.
- Stop using TypeUps and clear the site's local browser or application data.
- Contact typeupscontact@typeups.com with a privacy request.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect the service and the information it processes. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Do not submit secrets or information that would cause harm if it became public.
Age requirement
You must be at least 13 years old to use TypeUps. If the law where you live requires a higher minimum age for an online service, that higher age applies.
Clearly explicit adult content is available only after a person confirms that they are at least 18. TypeUps does not request a date of birth or perform identity-based age verification for this confirmation.
If we learn that personal information has been submitted by a child who is not old enough to use TypeUps, contact us so we can review and remove it where appropriate.
International processing
TypeUps is operated from New Zealand and uses providers that may process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have privacy laws different from those where you live.
Changes to this notice
We may update this Privacy Notice as TypeUps develops. We will update the date above and provide additional notice when a change is material and doing so is reasonably practicable.
